PARENTING Parenting today can be such a challenge. We do not live in the same society our parents did. In our parents day the community as a whole looked over the children. How often were we reprimanded by a friends parent if we got out of line. Not today. They would be told to mind their own business. What happened to "It takes a community to raise a child". Also in that era extended families lived in the same area helping one another. Today we are so transient that grand mothers may not even live in the same state as their grand children. Today who do we rely on to help pick up the slack in parenting. It might be the church family. I get the great privilege of leading a new moms group at church. These young women look to me for the advice they would get from their moms if they lived here. As a 46 yr old mom of 4 I get to pour into these young moms. I love the opportunity to lift them up, encourage them, and the chance to get them "TOOLS" for their parenting tool belt. While the children of these mothers are not my grand children nor nieces or nephews I am bonding with them still the same. One of these families we have grown close to over the last 3 years. I started out helping her with breastfeeding problems with her first child. I became a favorite "Auntie" to this little girl. I often kept her when mom was in school. I bought clothes and toys for this little girl. And when mom went in the hospital to give birth to their 2nd child this special child spent the night with us. I have also really bonded with their new son. And recently this wonderful family of 4 moved away to a new job. I have cried tears over the loss of this family in my life. And yet since they are only 3 hours away we will still see them. Is there a place in your life where you can step in to fill the gap for some of these young families who need support? Maybe your church or neighborhood? Look around you for a family that you can love on, encourage, support, and help. These young moms tell me often how much my help in their life means to them. They remind me that I help fill the gap of their own mothers. Where can you fill the gap?

ADOPTION Haley is 6 - Where has the time gone. When did my baby girl grown up so tall. Six years ago a tiny baby girl was laid in my arms - a gift from God (and from Mike & Connie). I cried tears of joy for this gift and tears of sorrow for their selfless gift. Today she is tall and thin. She has beautiful curly light brown hair and eyes the color of milk chocolate. She is reading, and singing, and counting. The quotes memory verses learned at Christian school. She sings songs about Jesus. She loves her friends and her new kitten Tinkerbelle. She has a twinkle in her eye and the witty sense of humor like her daddy. She loves people and does not know a stranger like her mama. She loves life with abandon. She reminds me often about the value of living life tot he fullest.

Adoption is such a miracle. This child is fully my daughter. Yet she was given life in the womb of another. Our relationship is open. Grandma Kelly came to visit a year ago. Connie emails and calls occasionally. We send photos and updates often. Haley has a family in Nebraska and in Oregon.
