CARES KIDS FLY SAFE - The standard airplane seat belt alone isn’t a safe
airplane seat for young children. Car seats are meant for cars not planes. Why
haul your child's heavy car seat on your trip if you will not need it is the car
later? Now CARES Kid Fly Safe aviation restraint keeps your little one safe
while on the plane. The safety test showed it to be as safe as a car seat for
your child. Order your CARES Kids Fly Safe Restraint today. CARES aviation
restraint comes also with an installation video on DVD which should be watched
before the parents travel the first time, and we also recommend that parents
experiment with the belts and buckles before they fly. It also comes with an
instructional safety card and travel carrying bag.

PARENTING
Teaching Kids Safety in the Kitchen
Teaching our children to cook is a great way of spending time with our
kids while giving them valuable skills that they will use throughout
their lives. Children who grow up learning to cook are less likely to be
obese and will be able to save themselves money over the years by not
having to eat out all the time. However, the kitchen is full of
potential hazards for children. By teaching kids safety in the kitchen,
you can ensure that they stay free of harm while learning to cook
healthy, satisfying meals.
In general, children respond well if you take the time to explain what
you are doing and why. Describe how your various kitchen implements
work, and what their benefits and dangers are before you use them.
Remember, however, that children do most of their learning by watching
their parents. If you practice unsafe habits in the kitchen, your kids
are more likely to imitate those behaviors than to follow your spoken
instructions.
1. Start with Good Hygiene
Safety in the kitchen isn’t just about sharp knives and hot surfaces,
but also about eliminating germs and creating safe meals. Teach your
children to wash their hands before starting to cook, to tie their hair
back, and to keep their cooking surfaces clean.
2. Teach Your Children about Food Safety
Anyone who is spending time in the kitchen should learn safe ways to
handle their food. Teach your children to separate raw and cooked foods,
how to treat uncooked eggs properly, and how to safely thaw frozen foods
to eliminate the threat of food poisoning.
3. Practice Knife Safety
Working with knives and other sharp instruments is one of the biggest
dangers that a child in the kitchen will face. Make sure to let your
child use knives that are appropriate for his or her age. Teach them
never to cut toward a body part, to keep the blade angled away from the
body, and to use the right knife for the job.
4. Teach Your Child to Be Aware of Burning Dangers
Cooking is full of opportunities for a child to burn him or herself.
Teach your child to avoid burning dangers by keeping pan handles turned
toward the inside of a stove, to use oven mitts properly, and to manage
splatter.
5. Avoiding Fires in the Kitchen
Most cooks have probably experienced a fire in the kitchen at one point
or another. Teach your children how to avoid fires by checking on their
foods frequently and by avoiding loose clothes that could dangle into
flames. If a fire does take place, make sure your child knows where the
fire extinguisher is and how to use it.
Cooking should be a fun family activity for children and parents alike.
Once your child can cook, he or she will be able to help more with daily
meals, as well as creating snacks, meals, and desserts that match his or
her tastes. By teaching your children basic kitchen safety and
supervising your little chefs, you can introduce them to this fun and
useful hobby while avoiding any danger of injury.

CHILD TRAINING - PASSWORD
Protect Your Child With A Password
When we think of password protection, we think of bank accounts,
computers, or even voice mail phone systems.
Our children are equally precious to us and need our protection. But how
do we protect them?
When my kids were small we established a password, or codeword that only
they and I knew. We chose a word very familiar to them, something they
could remember, yet not something easily guessed by an outsider.
In the car we would roleplay many situations that might happen and how
my children could respond. It was very important that if anyone other
than I was going to pick them up at school or from a sports practice or
even a girl scout meeting, this person must know our password.
If the person did not know the password, then my children were not to
get in their car under any circumstances. There were no exceptions to
this rule. Once you start making exceptions young children become
confused. Their mother, their father, and their grandmother knew their
password and often discussed it with them.
I know our system worked, because one day after her brownie meeting, a
friend of mine offered to drive my daughter home, knowing I was home not
feeling well. My daughter asked this adult woman if she knew the
password. Of course the woman did not. My daughter comfortably looked at
her and told her she could not get in the car with her.
I have never been more proud of this very precious little girl.

FATHERHOOD - The Metamorphosis Into Fatherhood
I have rarely imagined being a father. After all, modern society, though
constantly cherishing children, at the same time promotes the lifestyle
of being young and single. Hollywood makes youth sound like a
never-ending kaleidoscope of fun. Raise your hands if your life is a
constant mix of trips to Mexican resorts, parties in Florida, and
burning the road in your red sports car. Not a baby in sight, is there?
Is this a good thing? I'm sure television and movies were originally
filmed as avenues of escape from our real lives, but the images have so
infiltrated our psyches that having a real life - family, chores,
church, soccer practice - sounds like the life of a middle-aged prisoner
in a house of broken dreams. Certainly, it sounds like something to
avoid. I should know - I bought into it.
Even when all my friends began having children, I had a slight feeling
of disdain. Why would you put yourselves through this, I would think?
One coworker, usually full of energy and bright ideas, would suddenly be
lurching into work, rings around his eyes, a frown on his weary face
announcing yet another night of no sleep with his colicky baby. Another
close couple, with a life full of water skiing, ocean cruises and
parties till four in the morning, suddenly quit it all after the birth
of their twin boys. Cute kids, but what happened to our social, outgoing
friends? We were all the pins, and babies and the responsibilities of
family life became the dark, looming bowling ball.
Yes, our turn, finally, inevitably. A little reluctant, a little
excited, I had no clue what to expect. Being a little older, I had shed
some of these narrow and, frankly, immature delusions of a Hollywood
youth, but I was still scared. What about the quiet moments at a coffee
shop my wife and I always shared? How about going out to movies, the
ungainly new churches of North America? And Mexican resorts? Would we
have to quit cold turkey?
Then, on a cold February morning, we went to the doctor's office to try
and find our growing baby's heartbeat. Yeah, sure, that would be cool.
Recording the event on a cheap digital camera, the doctor searched and
searched, until, like parting through the rushing, busy sounds of my
wife's lifeblood, I heard the tiny tap tap of my baby's heartbeat. And
at that moment, my life completely changed.
Everything toppled. The yearnings of youth, resort vacations, buying
that big screen television, it all crashed and became meaningless
compared to that strong heartbeat. I turned into a parent right then and
there. On retrospect, I realize that I had escaped the suddenly dreary,
one-dimensional view of youth and the supposed bounty of excitement it
brings. It's selfish and unattainable. I don't want to be that person
again - I want to be with my child. I have a new, exciting dimension in
my life, and I now realize that this is what having a real life is.
Unless you have children, you can never know what it's like to be a
parent. What my sleep-deprived coworker never mentioned is that it is
all worth it. All those diaper changes, the crying, the full-time
responsibilities, everything is worth it. The look of wonder on my
baby's face at everything around her makes me realize how precious this
world is. Now I'm the one that often comes stumbling into the office
with less than a full-night's sleep, and I realize I can't explain the
joy I feel to someone who doesn't have kids of their own. They simply
are not capable of believing me.
