KLEYNIMALS - Clean Key Animals - Clean Safe Baby Keys - Kleynimals product is certified to ASTM standards for babies 6 months and up by a third party laboratory. We have them specifically tested for lead, among other hazards. One of the reasons that Kleynimals chose stainless steel is because of its lower environmental impact. Everything Kleynimals print is done on recycled paper. Our Kleynimals product comes in an unbleached muslin bag that is intended for reuse, and is made in the USA.
KLEYNIMALS - Pronunciation key: "Clean-Ih-Mals" We love being able to squeeze Clean Key Animals into one easy and fun to say word! Kleynimals do NOT contain lead, phthalates, BPA or cadmium. You can even put Kleynimals in the dishwasher!

Why Stainless Steel?
Babies love to play with our keys. Although we can try to replace our regular keys with an alternative, most are either made of plastic (what’s in that stuff!?) or an unknown metal (what’s in THAT stuff?), or come with some large plastic attachment about which most babies don’t seem to care. And, if your babies are anything like mine, they aren’t fooled by the plastic imitations anyway.
Then there is the option of creating a set of keys at the local hardware store, which seems like a great idea until you learn that household and car keys often contain dangerous amounts of lead.
That’s why we made Kleynimals out of Food Grade Stainless Steel - it is safe for babies and mimics the look and feel of a real key. We know stainless steel is safe; we put it in our mouths every day when we eat from stainless steel utensils.
Stainless steel eliminates the worry over chemicals like BPA or phthalates. And because our products are always manufactured in the U.S., parents can be sure that kids are not putting lead or cadmium in their mouths.
We recommend treating your Kleynimals as you do your stainless steel silverware. Just to be clear, here are some basics:
Do: Wash them before your child’s first use, although we also wash them with eco-friendly soap before packaging.
Do: Wash them in the dishwasher whenever needed thereafter.
Don’t: Put your Kleynimals in the microwave. Microwaves and metal do not have an amicable relationship.
Don’t: Like with any other items you love, we don’t recommend dropping Kleynimals on cement since it is so unforgiving. Sometimes babies forget this advice, so a pacifier clip can be a handy tool.
Do: Store your Kleynimals in the muslin bag in which they came. The bag will help protect them and keep them a little cleaner. It also means that you are re-using the “packaging,” which means you are being kind to our Earth.
Don’t: Be discouraged if your Kleynimals develop some slight marring or rust spots on the stainless. Although stainless steel is impact and rust resistant, it is not impact and rust proof. Some marks will naturally occur, just like stains on jeans or scratches on wood floors, and add even more character to your Kleynimals.
Do: Give Kleynimals to friends as gifts. Our hope is that the natural longevity of stainless steel will mean that they can serve as a keepsake for years (maybe even generations) to come.
Do: Recycle your Kleynimals. If you do not intend to make them a “keepsake” for future generations of your family, donate them to another family. If neither of these options seems attractive, please put them out with your recycling.
Don’t: Salt them or bleach them. The Chloride ion can attack the passive layer on the stainless steel, which can lead to rusting. Instead, you might consider salting food. As for bleach, we like to avoid it as much as possible. If you really want to clean them beyond the dishwasher, boiling is always a good option.
Do: Get your Kleynimals engraved so that they can be more personalized.
Don’t: Give them to one of the small percentage of people with a nickel allergy. As with all food grade stainless steel (also called 18/8 for the 18% Chromium and 8% nickel in the material) Kleynimals contain a small amount of nickel. Of note, even for people with an allergy to nickel, the skin irritation typically occurs only after prolonged and intimate exposure to nickel (think jewelry). Hence the reason stainless steel utensils have been around for decades.
Note: Kleynimals do NOT leach Nickel.
Don’t: Add anything to your Kleynimals (except an engraving, of course). They were tested “as is” for babies 6 months and up. We want to ensure they remain safe by not adding anything additional to the keychain.
I don't think I've ever been this excited about my baby's toy! Besides
being maybe the cutest thing ever, these keys give me peace of mind. I
know they are safe for Penelope -- and after 3 months, she is still
entranced by them. It's great knowing they are made here in the US too. I
can't wait to give them as gifts; they are something every new mom could
definitely use that's also unique for that fashion- conscious mother!

When I received my son's set of Kleynimals, they were more substantial than I expected - a better size and heavier than I anticipated. My son immediately grasped all of the keys and brought them to his mouth. They are perfect - not too heavy for him to hold now, but will remain heavy enough for him to really play with and eat in full force when he gets bigger!

My almost-10 month old LOVES his Kleynimals. They are more substantial than I thought they'd be, and he likes to crawl around with them, bang them on his tray, chew on them, shake them, etc.

Both my boys love their Kleynimals, maybe as much as I do! Even now that they are older, they still play with them - asking me for their "kleys" so they can pretend to drive their bike or car or whatever vehicle they are driving that day. When they were younger, it was a great relief to give Henry Kleynimals rather than my probably lead filled and certainly dirty house keys and they kept him occupied in stores, at home, in the car and everywhere in between. AND, I love love love that I can just throw them in the dishwasher when they need a bath. They are the number one present on my baby gift list. Thanks for making such a well-designed, well-researched product!
