Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent is an EXTREMELY effective
natural wild-crafted detergent with absolutely NO manmade chemicals,
toxins or artificial perfumes or fragrances. This natural detergent leaves
your laundry marvelously clean and fresh. Eco Nuts™ are mild enough for
delicate fabrics, wool and silks. Eco Nuts™ are gentle enough for baby
clothes but strong enough for cloth diapers. The quick biodegradability of
Eco Nuts (Soap Nuts) also make it ideal to use if you are on a septic or
gray water system. Eco Nuts™ are hypoallergenic and great for those with
sensitive skin, eczema, and psoriasis. All Eco Nuts™ packaging is 100%
compostable or 100% recyclable, and 100% plastic-free. Go environmentally
friendly with this organic sustainable natural laundry soap that has a low
environmental impact!
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent is completely sustainable
dried fruit soap nut shells that come from the Sapindus mukorossi tree
(also called the Soap Berry or Soap Nut Tree) in Nepal, India and
Indonesia. The ones we harvest come from high up in the Himalayas and are
the highest quality "soap nut" on the market. These fruit shells have been
used in India and China for centuries, and are now gaining popularity in
America and Europe as a renewable, biodegradable and organic alternative
to chemical detergents and expensive “Green” laundry soaps.
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent contain saponin, a natural
cleaner that works as a surfactant, breaking the surface tension of the
water to penetrate the fibers of your clothing, lifting stains from the
fabric and leaving dirt suspended in the water that is rinsed away.
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent is gentle on both clothes
and skin, making them ideal for those with sensitive skin, eczema,
allergies and psoriasis. Because the soap nuts are so mild, they are
perfect for baby clothes and cloth diapers. All-Natural Eco Nuts™ are also
great for septic and grey water systems. But don’t expect these shells to
foam up like commercial soaps, which have artificial foaming agents. Foam
simply does not represent cleaning power.
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent is wild-harvested soap nuts,
meaning they are gathered from wild trees grown without any kind of
chemicals, fertilizers, or pesticides. The saponin actually tastes bad to
insects so no pesticides are needed, and the trees naturally love poor
uncultivated soil. They are organically grown by mother earth and
certified USDA Organic by EcoCert at the source.
Nut Allergy Safe! - Eco Nuts™ are actually a soap nut berry fruit related
to the lychee and are not nuts at all. They are completely nut allergy
safe and have been used successfully with no reactions by people with nut
allergies. They earned the name "nuts" because they dry into hard shells
like nuts instead of squishy fruit.
While Eco Nuts™ has been a terrific solution for many customers with skin
allergies and other conditions, people who have many allergies or
compromised immune systems should always take proper precautions and first
wash one small item in a small container or sink OR do a patch test before
washing an entire load in the washing machine.
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent is Better for Cloth Diapers
A common reason why Cloth Diapers leak is residue buildup. Even if you use
free and clear or other so-called natural detergents, all of these leave a
residue on your fabric which will cause the fabric to become less
absorbent. Fabric softener will additionally make the diapers less
absorbent. This residue can also cause diaper rash. Diapers are more prone
to residue buildup because they are more absorbent than other fabrics.
Eco Nuts™ leaves very little residue, so you don't have to strip as often,
and will remove any residue buildup left behind by other products.
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent is great for cloth diapers
because they do not contain any dyes, enzymes, softeners, or fragrances
which contribute to the deterioration and excessive wear/tear on diapers.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: After the cycle ran, I was eager to check the results. The first thing that hit me as I pulled a towel from the washer was the amazing scent! Like my husband said, the towels smelled like they'd just come in from the clothesline. Amazingly clean smelling! ....... Next, I did a load of throw rugs. Same pleasant results. Then it was time for my delicates, which I never put in the dryer. Even after drying on the line in the basement, they still had the same fresh, spring like scent. Amazing. I think I'm in love.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: I really
like them! Makes everything soft and fluffy! Even makes me want to touch
the microfiber inserts again.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: I tested these little guys out and I have to say I was quite impressed...ESPECIALLY how well they cleaned the dirty cloth diapers...they came out clean and smelled fresh. The way they work, is you get a handful of nuts...about 5 and then you put them into the little sash baggie they send along with your soap, tie it off and throw it in the wash with your dirty laundry. When your load is done, you take the baggie out and you can use it for your next load (whenever that may be). They can be used for 5-7 washes in hot water and up to 10 for cold water...you can tell when they are done when they start to get soft/dissolve. My Eco Nuts made it through 7 loads of laundry and that included cold and hot washes AND extra rinses for the cloth diapers. I don't know why..and this is totally silly but I found these Eco Nuts so fun to use! I am definitely a Eco Nuts convert! "You'd be nuts to use any other soap!"
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: Little L
has really sensitive skin, just like his daddy! So it only made sense for
our family to at least give these a try. I had heard and read a lot about
them but just hadn't found the time to actually order them. Long story
short they were amazing. I love how much easier it was to carry a few
hollow nuts down to the laundry room than some huge chemically filled
bottle of tide! It was so simple too, just throw a few nuts into an
included muslin drawstring bag, toss it in, and you're good to go! Little
L had no reactions and the got ALL of our clothes clean! Once the nuts
have been used a few times you can boil them down and use them as a liquid
all natural cleaner! Mother nature never fails to amaze me!..."
Eco Nuts ™ very effectively remove all lingering smells.
The saponin in Eco Nuts™ actually helps to loosen fibers in the dryer
instead of tighten them, keeping your diapers as absorbent as they were
when you first bought them, even after many many washes. This soap nut
loosening effect that saponin has on fibers is also why no fabric softener
is needed for your diapers to be soft and fluffy.
Eco Nuts - Organic Soap Nut Laundry Detergent - We've been Loved and
Approved by many WAHM and Cloth Diaper Manufactures!
Eco Nuts™ have been used to naturally keep your diapers clean and soft,
residue-free, and help diapers last longer!
Q: Do these work in a front-loading or High Efficiency (HE) machine?
A: Absolutely! They are low sudsing and high in cleaning power. Just put
the wash bag directly into your machine with the rest of your clothes.
Q: I've heard of something called Soap Nuts. Is this the same thing?
A: If you are familiar with Soap Nuts, our Eco Nuts™ have become a widely
recognized brand name. Don’t settle for generic soap nuts. Eco Nuts™ are
higher in quality and cleaning power because in addition to our
proprietary sorting and handling process, we also only use a particular
variety and size. We have found this quality control translates into more
re-uses than many other generic soap nuts. Our proprietary sorting process
also ensures a consistency in shape and texture that makes Eco Nuts™
pleasant and easy to use. Because we lovingly and carefully hand package
in the USA, we can also eliminate individualized plastic wrapping
otherwise required by customs.
College students, mothers, campers, techies, boarders, and eco-activists
alike keep telling us that Eco Nuts™ work great! Try a sample size and
you'll become an Eco-Nut too!
Q: I accidentally put the bag with Eco Nuts™ into the dryer! Are they
still usable?
A: Yes, though you may get fewer washes until you replace them.
Q: Is this a berry or a nut or fruit or what?
A: If you want to get technical, it is actually a drupe - a fruit in which
an outer fleshy part surrounds a pit or large seed. The Chinese soapberry
tree is closely related to lychees. In the case of Eco Nuts™, we have
removed the inner seed for you. Other plants that produce drupes are
coffee, mangoes, cherries, apricots, peaches and plums.
Q: I have nut allergies, are these safe?
A: It is safe for people with nut allergies because it's a fruit and not a
nut (though they definitely resemble nuts!)Many people with severe nut
allergies have used Eco Nuts™ with no problems or reactions. While Eco
Nuts™ has been a terrific solution for many customers with skin allergies
and other conditions, people who have many allergies or compromised immune
systems should always take proper precautions and first wash one small
item in a small container or sink OR do a patch test before washing an
entire load in the washing machine.
Q: How do these work exactly?
A: Eco Nuts™ contain an all natural chemical called saponin that acts as a
surfactant. The saponin is released from the berry when it is agitated in
water. Regular detergents also contain a manmade, chemical surfactant.
Surfactants work by breaking the surface tension of the water so it better
penetrates cloth fibers. The agitation made by your laundry machine shakes
the dirt loose and and the saponin holds it in the water until it is
rinsed away.
Q: Because the bag is in the machine for the whole wash, even the rinse
cycle, is that okay? Are my clothes being washed twice?
A: In the rinse cycle, Eco Nuts™ release very little saponin since the
rinse cycle is cooler water. That small amount of saponin is what makes
your clothes soft and fluffy.
Q: Can I use bleach with these?
A: Sure! We recommend an eco-friendly oxygen bleach, but any brand is
fine. Keep in mind that standard bleach deteriorates fabrics through
oxidation causing them to wear out sooner. Another Eco-friendly way of
bleaching is by putting your articles out in the sun. For information on
sun-bleaching, check out this article at dirtydiaperlaundry.com
Q: How Do I store Eco Nuts™?
A: Make sure they are kept in a cool, dry place away from any moisture.
Q: There's some berry halves in here. Are those okay to use and will they
still work?
A: Yes, you can use them! The saponin is contained in the skin of the
berry so any sized piece will still release that saponin. There are some
companies that only offer whole berries but we don't see why any should go
to waste, which is why when it goes through our triple hand-sorting
process we allow halves to get through and we judge on color, size and
weight. The berries are slit open during the pitting/drying process so
sometimes the whole berries break in two. When measuring for your bag,
simply take two halves to equal a whole! The pieces can also be re-used -
same as the whole berries.
Q: How many washes can I get with these?
A: It depends on the temperature of the water. If you wash only in very
hot water, you will probably get 7 loads. If you only do cold water
washes, you can get up to 10 loads or more. Because of the high quality of
the berries, you will likely get many more washes than what we say on the
box.
You will be able to tell when they are used up because they will start to
disintegrate. Then you can compost them if you wish, or simply add new
berries to the bag.
Q: Do I need to use hot or warm water or can I wash in cold water?
A: We encourage you to read the labels on your garments and linens and
wash with the recommended temperature of the fabric. Eco Nuts™ will work
in any temperature water. Hot water will release more saponin.
Due to our proprietary handling process, Eco Nuts™ will still release
saponin in cooler water, and will still effectively clean normal
cold-water laundry as long as the machine was not over-filled. If the
laundry to be cold washed is very soiled, you can make a "tea" by soaking
the bag in hot water for a few minutes and then add the bag with the water
to your cold water wash, and put fewer items in the machine to provide
more agitation.
Q: You recommend these for cloth diapers, but I've read elsewhere that
"natural" detergents aren't good for them. can you explain?
A: Many natural detergents contain enzymes which contribute to wear and
tear on your cloth diapers. Eco Nuts™ leave little to no residue and
actually remove residue that other detergents leave behind. To read more
about why Eco Nuts™ are great for cloth diapers, and how to wash cloth
diapers, check out our page here.
Q: How do I tell when the Eco Nuts are used up?
A: There are a few ways to tell when the nuts are used up.
a disintegrated soap nut won't look like it did originally. it will be
thin, light colored and falling apart and will resemble floppy/broken
peanut shells. it may also crunch or break apart when you squeeze it (if
dry).
Here's some other ways to tell:
1. smell the bag when wet.
Saponin has a fruity odor when wet. When you take the bag out of the
machine, smell it. If there is a slight fruity smell, the nuts are still
good for more loads.
2. run the bag under a faucet and squeeze.
You'll see little tiny suds if there is still soap.
3. Feel the nuts when wet.
They will have an almost slippery sudsy feeling to them if there is still
soap.
Don't worry if you've gotten what might be more than 10 loads, it's very
common to get between 10 and 20 loads with this most recent harvest. As
always, when in doubt, replace.
