When you have children, the world changes. Every decision becomes more complex. And of course there are the decisions you wouldn’t have to make at all if it weren’t for your kids, like picking a childcare provider. An increasingly important factor in choosing a daycare is the availability of live, streaming video surveillance within the facility. Parents can go to the provider’s website, login and see a live feed of what their child is doing at any point during the day. Are these cameras an awesome tool for caregivers and parents, or a creepy big brother situation?
One great thing about streaming video from childcare facilities is the immense amount of security it can provide for parents. Nothing sets a parent’s mind at ease like knowing that at any moment they can log on to their daycare providers website and see exactly what their child is doing. Mom or Dad can watch as their child learns the alphabet, finger paints, and interacts with other children. This can help parents feel involved with their children even though they cannot be with them during the day. There is, however, a downside. Parents have to be comfortable with the fact that they are not the only people who can watch their children over the internet at any given time. Of course the streaming videos are not open to the public; you generally have to have a username and password to access the stream. But just because someone’s children are in the same preschool class as yours doesn’t mean you want them to have video access to your child during the day.
Another positive effect constant monitoring is that it keeps the staff on their toes. We have all heard stories of daycare and nursing home abuse. Children and the elderly are the easiest victims for predators in our society. Knowing that there are video cameras around every corner can help motivate a worker to behave positively when they might otherwise have acted unscrupulously. A negative side to this is that it may foster an environment of distrust among the employees. They may feel uncomfortable being filmed preemptively, when they have given their employers no reason to suspect inappropriate conduct.
Bullying is an increasing problem at schools and childcare facilities. If older children know that they are potentially being watched, they would be less likely to physically bully other students. The cameras could help the children to regulate their behavior. This of course does not solve the bullying problem; it would still be possible for emotional bullying to take place. It is, however, a step in the right direction.
While there are drawbacks to having cameras in preschool and daycare classrooms, the implications are vastly positive. It helps parents to feel secure. It helps to keep child care providers motivated to follow procedure. It helps children and students to be on their best behavior. Streaming videos at daycare facilities help keep our children safe, and they hold accountable the people charged with their safety.

Lately I have been reading and watching videos on building business. I really enjoy this topic and exploring how and why certain techniques help to build brand awareness and customer loyalty. When I started out in business it was easy to personally connect and thank our customers. However as it has grown that gets more difficult. We ship 30-50 boxes a day from our store plus talk to another dozen customers a day in the store. So how can I do this well?
I stumbled across the idea of Appreciation Marketing. That is the habit of sending thank you note and heartfelt appreciation cards to customers and clients with no sales pitch or idea of return. Simply the action of touching them to say “I appreciate you”! Think back to the last time you got a real greeting card in the mail from someone. How did it make you feel?
I recently got a customer account with Send Out Cards. This one little program has changed the way I do business. It has given me an easy, workable, affordable tool for staying connected to my customers and clients. For less than the cost of a card at Walmart or Dollar Tree I can send a card in the mail to the people I want to connect with.
Now when I think about a customer or vendor I can easily log in and send them a card for 62 cents plus 45 cents postage. I can even add a gift card or gift (like gourmet brownies) with that card. Do you think they feel valued when they receive that. Do you think they will remember us in a positive light? I think so! And as a business owner I appreciate the customers who choose to do business with us. I want us to provide excellent customer service and a positive experience.
So if you are a business owner you to can use this free system to send out a card to your customer or client. The account is free. The customer contact system is free. And the cards are as little as 62 cents each. You can even personalize these cards with photos and even your own handwriting font. That would really make an impact.
So let me give you a free trial. Go to http://www.sendoutcards.com/MyPreciousKid. Watch the 3 minute video on how it works and then send out a free card on me. Simple click the SEND A CARD button and follow the prompts. Then if you to want this free account for your business go back to the front page and select JOIN NOW! The account is free. If you choose the preferred customer wholesale subscription you get the lowest cost per card. No contract and can be cancelled any time.
If you have questions please email or call. I am happy to be a help to you and your growing business. And if you are like me and would like to add income stream to your busies ask me about the busies option as well.
