TV Safety
I was saddened to find out this week about 2 deaths of children in Florida as a result of falling TV’s. In one case the TV was placed on a stand that was not suitable for a 100 pound TV. So when the child bumped against it the stand fell over and the TV fell on the 2 year old child. In the other case the TV was placed on top of a dresser. The dresser was not secured to the wall. So when the child try to use the drawer in order to reach up and turn the TV channel the dresser fell forward, and the TV fell on top of the 6 year old child. My heart is breaking for these families that have lost their precious children.
The TV station in Florida called me this week and did a phone interview about what products can be used to secure televisions. They were concerned with helping to educate parents of TV safety. Our anti-tip strap is the product he was most interested in http://www.mypreciouskid.com/anti-tip-tv-anchor.html
Parents are not always aware of the danger that TV’s can pose. If you have children in your home, or that visit your home, please secure your televisions. There are a number of products that will secure your TV (either to the wall stud behind the TV or to the stand). If you are securing it to the stand then also secure the stand to the wall. Televisions are very top heavy and can hurt or kill a child if they fall over.
I read this week that 16,000 children each year are hurt by falling furniture in homes. So please take the time to look thru your home for furniture that should be secured. All TV’s and other electronic equipment, bookcases, entertainment centers and other pieces of furniture should be secured to studs within the walls behind them. Our Furniture Brackets are a great solution for this http://www.mypreciouskid.com/furniture-safety-brackets.html Child Safety precautions are really important in rooms where children play (family rooms) and rooms where children sleep or are left unsupervised. Is your child’s bedroom secure?
