SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS

Below are some of my tricks and tips for using social media ( Twitter and Facebook) to build your business presence.

1. CIRCLE: Website>Blog>FaceBook>Twitter – connect them together
2. POST: on one then send link to post of the others
3. ASK: customers, friends, others to follow you on all 4
4. SHORT: Keep posts short, ask people to repost or retweet
5. SCHEDULE: regular post (weekly)
6. COUPONS: Offer coupon codes regularly on each, different coupon per media
7. HELP: Offer helps, tips, articles
8. BUTTONS: Put social media buttons on all 4 places
9. NICHE: Know your niche area of expertise and post about that
10. BRAND: Build your brand identity

FACEBOOK TIPS

1. ACCOUNT: Set up personal FB account first in your name
2. FAN PAGE: Then set up a FB fan page for business http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php
3. APPS: Add some business apps http://mashable.com/2009/01/22/business-facebook-apps/
4. PHOTOS: Add your logo, picture of the owner, picture of your store. Let them see the person
5. ASK: your friends on FB/TW/Blog to become fans
6. POST: interesting content, contest, coupons, intro new products, tips, etc
7. BUTTONS: Post a FB button on your website & Blog
8. LINKS: Post links to your blog post on FB
9. USER NAME: Set your user name to match business name at http://www.facebook.com/username/
10. SCHEDULE: posts at least once a week

TWITTER TIPS

1. NAME – Get your twitter account in your business name – build your business brand
2. ADD a photo, website URL and a full bio box in your settings FIRST THING. It helps people decide to follow you
3. TWEET every day, plan your time, even 30 minutes help
4. GIVE help, tips, encouragement, free samples, article, blog entries, etc
5. FIND someone you admire and follow some of their followers
6. FOLLOW BACK most of those who follow you
7. FREEBIE Create a freebie to giveaway. Include catalog and coupon off
8. ENCOURAGE your followers to follow newbies
9. GRADE http://twitter.grader.com/ to see your grade – follow top 100
10. SEARCH http://twitter.grader.com/searc h – search term of people to follow
11. ASK for followers on twitter – ask followers to ask followers to follow you.
12. ENTER other conversations. ANSWER others questions. POST a poll. ASK a question every day.

    Thanks for the tips Kay! Great post. I know consistency is the key. When I keep up with social media, it keeps up with me.

    Thank you for these helpful tips! Branding is to important. I have twitter and FB, but it sure does take a lot of time to update, even when they are linked. But I’m going to work harder at it. Thanks again.
