Vacation Safety Tips

Our goal is to help parents plan ahead to keep their kids safe on vacation. The following article outlines some great tips for doing just that. http://www.mypreciouskid.com/vacation-safety-tips.html

1. Have each child (ages 0-18) wear a physical ID at all times. I recommend an ID Bracelet, or Velcro shoe tag or personalized Dog Tags.

2. Play the “What if …” game with your children. If you ask my toddler, “What if Mommy gets lost?” (they never think they are lost) she will tell you, “Find another mommy, take off my shoe (or bracelet) and ask the mommy to call you!”

3. Make a game of remembering what color each of you is wearing that day. If you are at a large group, wear matching T- shirts to help identify your group.

4. Have a plan: If we get separated, stay where you are, and Mommy will find you. If you are scared, ask another mommy to stay with you and call me.

5. Have a photo ID of each child in your wallet. In case of separation, you have a photo and description to help others looking for the child. Each adult with the group needs these. Or take a photo with your phone or digital camera as you enter the location.

6. Have multiple family contacts and telephone numbers in the glove box, in your purse, in backpacks, on shoe stickers, on strollers, etc. Add numbers for family members not traveling with you (grandma, sister, uncle, brother).

7. Every child and teen should carry an ID card with family contact numbers, cell phone numbers plus a medical release signature. Put it in their wallet, in their backpack and on their car seat and stroller.

8. Teach the child to drop to the ground and scream loudly, “He is not my daddy/mommy. HELP!” if someone tries to take them.

9. Take your child’s car seat with you on vacation. Then you know you have the right seat for your child. Put a ID card on the car seat in case of a car accident. I prefer the luggage tag style ID card for this. I add one to their back pack too.

Please plan ahead to keep your kids safe this summer too. We can help!

End of Vaccine Autism Connection

I have read lots on this subject. And I have talked to my doctor and many others. There was even a court case on this that was thrown out because there was no evidence to support a link between autism and vaccines. Now we have this written confirmation and more research. The original report that brought this possibility to our attention has been repealed as not authentic. There is no connection between vaccines and increase in autism. http://www.thechildinjurylawyer.com/vaccine-autism-link

Child-Safe Window – Treatment Control Options

From our GUEST BLOGGER

This past December, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that since 1990, more than 200 infants and young children have died from accidentally strangling themselves with window blind and shade cords. A nationwide recall of about 50 million units was ordered and the Window Covering Safety Council is urging those with small children to “go cordless” with their window treatments. Luckily, the window treatment industry offers a number of control options that do not require these long and dangerous cords.

The first option is going electric. Many window blinds and shades can be motorized now, completely eliminating the need for cords. With motorized window treatments you have the option of a remote control or a wall mounted switch. You can also choose whether you want the treatment to be battery-powered or plugged into the wall. For child safety purposes, it may be best to have a battery-powered motor mounted in the head-rail as a cord plugged into the wall may draw your child’s attention to the power outlet. The electric option is, however, the most expensive and may be out of your budget’s range.

Using a pole to open and close your window treatments is an alternative option that is significantly cheaper than motorizing them. The hook on the end of the pole fits into a small hole on the handle that pushes the treatment up and down. Most likely, you will still need to pay a little extra to have this option added, but not nearly as much as the cost of motorization. Almost all styles of custom ordered shades and blinds are able to have this option added.

If you’re looking for an option that will cost you the absolute least amount of money, you can always just go with window treatments that do not require cords. This may limit your options as far as style goes, but it will give you peace of mind about your child’s safety and not cost you an arm and a leg in the process. A basic curtain or drape will work for this as they can just be opened and closed by hand. It is also possible to find blinds and shades that do not require cords; you just have to do some searching. The bottom line is if you have small children in your house, it is imperative that you go cordless with your window coverings.

Free Car Seat ID Cards

Well since last week we have filled 250 requests of our available 500 free car seat ID cards. There did seem to be a bit of confusion on who qualified. So we have changed the wording this morning to make it clearer. We are so excited to know that 500 more babies will be protected in the event of a car accidence. They are now armed with information on the car seats. Please continue to pass the word until this batch is gone.

If your child does not qualify for a free car seat ID card they are available for sale for only $2.50 each. We recommend every child in every car seat have an ID card. This card gives emergency personnel information they need such as the child’s name, weight, height, medical conditions and allergies, family contact information and emergency medical release signature. For babies this card so be redone with current information 2-3 times a year. For children place a new card with current information on their card seats once a year on their birthday.

NOTE: These cards are sent to the parents blank with a self sealing laminating pouch. The parent competes the information on the cards ( with ink, or typing, or clear label tape) and then places the card in the seal sealing pouch to protect it. A photo is helpful but not required.
