Freebies for Babies

My daughter-in-law Katie is newly pregnant. So I decided to help her find the coupons and freebies available to expectant mothers. And I thought this might be helpful to others as well.

1. Open a new gmail.com account. You do not want all the spam stuff coming to your regular email address.

2. Go to http://www.mypreciouskid.com/free-gift-new-baby.html to get your first gift.

3. Do a search for “baby freebies”, free for mom, and others types of searches on google

4. Search for diaper freebies/coupons:
Pampers, Huggies, Luvs

5. If you are bottle feeding or supplementing then search for formula freebies/coupons:
Nestle, Similac, Enfamil. Most have free sign ups on their site.

6. Search for the major baby suppliers and check their site for coupons/freebies:
Mam, Avent, Graco, Evenflow, Gerber, Earth Best, Carter, Playtex

7. Get a free membership at
http://www.planningfamily.com
http://www.babytobee.com

8. Find pregnancy freebies at http://freebies.about.com/od/pregnancyfreebies/Pregnancy_Freebies.htm

9. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com and set up a profile. Then do a search for baby freebies and coupons  mom

10. Ask your OB and Pediatrician office for coupons and freebies

Congrats on your new baby. I hope this will help you find all the freebies and coupon available to you as a new parent.

Trademark Your Business Name

Many have asked about how to get a Trademark. Since I have one I thought I could chime in.
If you are going into to business it is was one expense you need to consider.

First make sure before you register your business name that no one else is using a name that is very close to yours. Google for it. Check the trademark office. Do your homework. If you choose a name too close to someone else’s name you could apply for trademark and pay the fees and lose (no refund). So be sure the name you want to use is not already being used by other people. Just become the .com you want is available does not mean the name is not being used and available.

Do not use a trademarked word in your business name or product (like Binky or Onsie). That can get you in big trouble.

File for your LLC free at http://mycorporation.com/mycorp-llc-package/
Then register your name with your state (approx $50) and get the .com website name to match ($10 a yr).
Create your website using the name you want to trademark. (host $10 a month)

Then file for your state trademark, usually pretty inexpensive and easy. $50 for Oregon http://smallbusiness.findlaw.com/trademark/trademark-registration/state-trademark-info-links.html

Then file for the Federal Trademark at
http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/index.jsp
The fee starts at $400 and takes many months. The important thing is the pick the category for the types of products you will associate with your trademarked name. Be patient. They will come back and ask for more info along the line. Just keep working through the system.

This is very important if you want to protect the name you are using. If you do not do this and someone else decides to register that name or one close you could be asked to close your site or change your business name after using it for a while.

Looking for Baby Products to Review

I am doing a 2010 Baby Products Review at http://www.mypreciouskid.com/baby-products-review.html . All products will be given to a pregnant family member after the review. I find that product reviews are a great way to increase your own business traffic and incoming links. So I am looking for new products to be reviewed. The reviewed products will be listed on that page with a link to your website for at least 1 year. As you can see these past ones were listed for 5 years. Our site gets nearly 2000 unique visitors a day and has great google ranking. A link in the review from our site to your site is very helpful. I will also be promoting this page on Twitter and Facebook. Let me know if you would like to be included.

Requirements to be included:
1.  Send EMAIL me with request and product description
2.  Item must be for use by new mama (pregnant and/or nursing) or baby 0-12 months
3.  No cost to be included, just the value of the donated item(s) of at least $20
4.  The item cannot be one that I already sell in my store
5.  Provide a photo and short description of the product
6.  If approved for inclusion, send the product to my store in Hillsboro OR

Get Started Doing Product Reviews

How to get started getting free products by doing product reviews. I have had several people ask how you do this. First you need to have a blog or website. THEN:

1. Find companies who have products that fit your market.
2. Approach them asking if they would supply a product for review
3. Also ask if they want to do a giveaway (2nd product) to increase traffic
4. Provide them stats: blog age, unique daily visitors, page rank, and # of followers
5. Tell them where you will promote this (yahoogroups, twitter, facebook, etc)
6. To get started post some reviews of products you already own on your blog
7. Keep a record of who you have asked and their answer so you do not bother them again
8. In the review/giveaway require your readers to go to the products site to be entered
9. In the review/giveaway give entries for them following the retailer’s blog/twitter/facebook
10. You must work hard to get a good following for these reviews/giveaways
11. Post on your blog/facebook/twitter that you are looking for products to review
12. Ask friends and family to help you pass the word that you are doing reviews

As a business owner they provide great exposure for me and my products as long as the blogger has a following already. The added incoming links to my site from the blog also help with page rank. So it really is a win-win situation.

CHILD PROOFING: Bathroom Safety

Bathroom Safety KitCHILD PROOFING: This is so important if you have children that live in or visit your home. There are many dangers hiding throughout our homes. As a mom I want to be certain my home is safe for my own children and visitors.

CABINETS: Our bathrooms usually have cabinets filled with medicines and cleaning supplies. It is very important that we secure those in a way that children do not have access to them. You may choose to use locks or latches to prevent children from accident poisoning or harm. There are a number of kinds of locks and latches. The newer magnetic cabinet locks are a very secure method. Most can be attached with supplied foam tape. However I recommend that the top portion actually be screwed into the upper frame of the cabinet to be more secure. You will require 1 lock per cabinet and 1 key per room. The key is actually a magnet that releases the lock when swiped over the cabinet near the lock. Be certain to place the key up high out of reach or site of the child.

TUB: The tub of course poses a drowning hazard. So most importantly, never leave your child unattended in the bathroom with a tub of water.  Adding a spot cover will help protect your bathing child from bumping their head. And the Bath Tub Alarm will helps you be certain you do not over fill the tub or have water that is too hot. A bathtub handle can also help protect from falls while people get in and out of the tub.

OUTLETS: These pose a threat to young children as well. Outlets near water should have a GFI (ground interrupt) outlet. All other outlet in the room needs to be cover with a sliding outlet cover. This protects your child from shock arising from putting a foreign object in the outlet.

TOILET: If you have curious toddlers in your home you know all about the dangers of unwanted items being thrown into the toilet. These can cause serios harm to your plumbing. Adding a toilet lid lock can help keep that from happening.

Please do a survey of the bathrooms in your home today. Look to see what areas you can improve the child proofing to keep children safer. My Precious Kid has a large assortment of Child Proofing Products for your home.

What is my PURPOSE and PASSION? Crush It!

What is yours?

Our pastors have been teaching about what a successful active growing church looks like. If comes from a book called SIMPLE CHURCH. And I realized much of it will also works for business owners.

The preface is
1. Know what you have been called to do
2. Align your resources/people/time to that purpose
3. Say no to other good things that do not take you to toward your purpose

So I have been praying and thinking about what my job/business/ministry purpose is. I am asking about the passion God put in me for Child Safety. And then I am purposing to focus my business passion more directly. I realize that I am living my God given passion for child safety. And even my ministry to new moms is surrounded by child safety.

And then today I was told about a book called CRUSH IT by Gary V. You can read a free chapter at http://crushitbook.com/chapter7.pdf I bought the download for my computer and Sony Reader.

In that book he talks about knowing what your DNA is. Your purpose and passion. And each of us will have a different one. Then he talks about building a job/business around that purpose. So I thought you might all like to check it out or read the free chapter. It is thought provoking and inspiring. Let me know what you think.
