Socks for Homeless Kids

haleyMy daughter Haley (age 9) has been talking about doing a project to help the needy. Her scout group did a project to help kids in 3rd world countries but she wanted to do something to help local kids in need. Then we found out there are 150+ homeless school age children in our city of Hillsboro Oregon.

So she wants to do a SOCK DRIVE. We understand that having new clean dry socks is a gift in the winter months. So we are going to ask friends, family and community to help us collect new socks for kids, teens and adults in need.

Fred Meyer has their annual 1/2 price sale on the Friday after Thanksgiving so it is the perfect way to stretch our giving. So if you would like to donate, bring new socks for children, teens, men or women to My Precious Kid in Hillsboro, OR. We are located on the corner of 5th and Baseline across from Hutchins Appliance and Hillsboro Vacuum. We are open from 9 am – 4 pm M-F.

Our local youth group is collecting clean coats (used and new) for the homeless. So if you have coats you want to donate, we can pass them on as well.

Thanks in advanced for helping my daughter learn that it is better to give. And that one person can make a differnce.

Good work Haley. It warms my heart to see kids come up with ideas that are so selfless and compassionate. My kids and I put together large care packages to ship to their orphanages in China. It is very meaningful to include kids. I wish you lots of luck on your project. Please post an update.

    Dear Haley (and Haley’s Mom)
I want to commend you for the work you are doing. Socks are such an important part of health for both the body and spirit, and I am always glad to see when someone understands this, and steps forward to help those in need.

What a great idea! Would it be possible for me to mail up some socks to help out? I can donate some from our shop.

Great idea Haley! Also mention that Target now carries a sock line for a buck!

This is an excellent idea. I also think that because of “the economy” that we all hear so much about, many people are financially strapped. But, a clean pair of socks is an inexpensive but significant way to make a difference.
