Working From Home Has Benefits

Well this post is more personal in nature. I have children ages 26, 24, 21 and 9. I have 3 grandchildren ages almost 3 and twins 4 months. I have run my business http://MyPreciousKid.com for over 8 years now. In the first 7 years I worked from home completely. We even added a couple employees at my house. In June 2008 I moved the business to a retail location because we needed more space.

When we discussed the idea of moving the business from home I was not sure I would like having to be at the store each morning. However I found very quickly that I do indeed like having the business in its own location. I like having employees who can take care of things when I am gone. And I really like having enough space for the business.

Well today is one of those days when I am glad to have both options. Having a lap top and blackberry let me work at the office, from home or from another location. And today because of family needs I am at home. And my 2 great employees are taking care of the orders and phones at the store.

My 21 yr old daughter, who lives out on her own, had her wisdom teeth pulled this morning. So at 8:00 I dropped her at the dentist. Then I took my 9 yr old daughter to her Christian School. Then I went back to the dentist office, only to be sent home since they would not need me for an hour. At 10:15 I went and got my daughter from the dentist and settled her at home on my couch. Then I went to the store to get her prescription and some soft food.

At 11 I get a call that my 9 yr old is not feeling well at school. So I go get her, bring her home and feed her lunch, and get her down for a nap about 12:30. Now I have some time to work on my web site and business from home.

This evening my son and daughter-in-law get the keys to their first house. So I am sure at least part of us will be over there to check things out. And my hubby gets home tonight from a 3 day business trip. And of course there is dinner, dishes, laundry, homework, etc.

So today I am thankful for the technology and opportunity to work from home or work from my store or work wherever I need to at this time. I am thankful I can take the time to give to my family on a day like today when they need me. Thank you God, for your blessings!

Working from home is great and the main downside it less social interaction at times. But all the benefits far out way this. Besides, you can always go shopping and talk to sales clerks when you get lonely. :)

Wonderful! I am also glad that I have the flexibility in my job to go and be able to go home and work, run errands, or just take the kids and have fun. As long as the parents know what the plan is and I’m there on time to pick the older one up from the bus after school, I’m “free” to do as I need to. Of course, there are times where I need to do work around their house, but that often gets done while the kids are eating or the Kindergartner is at school. Thank you, Lord, for flexibility in crazy times!
