I love the crank flashlights for kids - particularly in a summer camp situation. never have to worry about their batteries running out and you can be a little "greener" too.

Lovely tips, thank you! I'm enjoying this site more and more. You guys are a wealth of information. I just felt I had to share my experience with you seeing as my teens are on camp right now.
Last year we had a bit of a bad experience with the camp they went on and needless to say I have been quite worried about this year's camp.
I noticed you mentioned the emergency numbers thing - I actually got both my teens cell phones just before they went on camp. I am not one of those parents who believe in cell phones at an early age but I deemed it necessary under the circumstances. Anyway, I got them each a Motorola W376 from Tracfone for under $30. Very reasonable priced seeing as it comes with DMFL and the phones have built-in cameras. The bonus came a few day ago when I started receiving photos about various camp activities! It made my week!
Thanks again for a lovely site.

Another good safety idea for sending your child off to camp this summer... If you are not going to be taking the trip to/back from camp with your kid is getting them a cell phone to keep in touch on the journey and ensure they arrive safely. Tracfone offer service from $7 a month for the minimal contact needed to be in touch and they've got a great phone Motorola W376 with camera etc.for less than $30. Its a great way to make sure they're safe and they'll think its cool!
