Why a Child ID Kit for your child?

One of the ways that you can ensure your child's safety is to complete a Child ID Kit for each of your children.
Child ID Kit

Child ID Kit

Our children, they are the most precious gift any one of us will ever receive, which is why we as parents must do everything that we can to protect them and take care of them.  One of the ways that you can ensure your child’s safety is to complete a Child ID Kit for each of your children.

Our Child ID Kit: Child Safety Pack include eight products that will help to protect your child.  These include:  an ID card, a holder which allows you to attach the ID card to your child’s car seat, a medical release form and pouch, a child luggage tag ID and pouch, two shoe ID’s for your child and a disposable wrist and ankle id for your child.  Also included in the kit is a free fingerprint and DNA kit.

It is amazing in today’s society that 90% of pets have identification on their bodies but only two percent of children do.  Do you know how many children are lost in America today?  And, even sadder it could be prevented through the use of such products as the Child ID Kit.

Not only do you want to complete a child Id kit for your child, but you will want to update the child ID kit each year.  Your child grows and changes so quickly you will need to keep the information on the kit as up to date as possible to ensure that they will easily be identified.  You can remember to do so by completing a new kit each year either on their birthday or at the beginning of a new school year.  You will want to be sure and have an up to date pictures as well as up to date height and weight stats.

Though a child’s fingerprint does not change as they grow their fingerprints are easier to read so therefore they should be redone each year as well.  The DNA samples of hair and saliva will last a year, but longer if they are frozen.

The best part about these kits is that they are so easy to use and available for parents to do themselves.  Order your childs ID kit today!

Milk Allergy & Reflux in Babies

Babies can have milk allergies. And up to 40% of babies with reflux also have a milk protein intolerance. Different formulas have different ingredients.

I nursed completely my first 3 children. And none of them had any food allergies. When we adopted our 4th child I learned more about the world of food allergies. Babies can have milk allergies. And up to 40% of babies with reflux also have a milk protein intolerance.

My last daughter had some food allergies as a baby: milk, eggs, soy and peanuts. I learned to be very careful.  She was adopted at birth. I did adoptive breast feeding but had to also supplement for the first few months. It took us several months to find the right formula to supplement with becasue of her milk allergy. Nestle Goodstart was the only thing she tolerated well. We know now her nilk allergy was probably a CASEIN intolreance.

Fast forward 6 years and my first granddaughter was born.  She also had reflux. Her mama nursed her as well but supplemented as well because of some supply and latch issues. She reactive negatively every time mama consumed milk products. She also reactived poorly ( gassy grumbly tummy) to most formala except Nestle Good Start.

Now 2 years later my twin grandsons have been born. They have reflux. They also have fussy gassy tummies. Mama is nursing but supplements occassioanly to help when supply is low. They have not handled the Nestle Goodstart well.  So we are on a search for the right supplemnt for them too. She has taken all dairy our of her diet as well.

*******************************************

In the process this is what I have learned:

Breast milk is Whey (protein) and Lactose (sugar)

Most formula is Whey, Casein (protein), and Lactose.

Babies can react to either of the 3 ingredients.

************************************

Nestle Good start is Whey/Lactose (no casein) so most breastfed babies do well on this.

Similac is Whey/Lactose/Casein

Soy Formula has no whey or cows milk

Lact-free Formula is whey/casein

**********************************

Up to 40% of babies with reflux has a mil protein intolerance. For those babies soy or another whey free formula will be best. And if mama is breastfeeding then she should not consume as dairy products.

I hope this information is valuable to another mama looking to help their child as well.

Advantages and disadvantages of breast milk and formula milk

New mothers are faced with one major question when it comes to feeding their baby; whether to go for breast milk or formula milk. This is a personal decision which has to be made by the mother well before the baby is born.

nursingcover-YOKO150New mothers are faced with one major question when it comes to feeding their baby; whether to go for breast milk or formula milk. This is a personal decision which has to be made by the mother well before the baby is born. Although breast milk is the best nutrition a mother can give to her child, there may be times when the mother is unable to breastfeed her child. In other cases, the mother may not be willing to breast feed her baby at all, or could be unwell to do so. In such cases, infant formula milk is a healthy alternative for her to go with. Both breast milk and formula milk have their pros and cons and this article discusses some of the major ones in detail.

Choose the right clothing
One of the most important things you will need to be able to breastfeed in public is the right clothing. If you choose a breast feeding bra or a nursing t-shirt for yourself, you should be able to easily breastfeed your baby just anywhere. Although breastfeeding bras and shirts are designed in such a way that no skin is revealed while breastfeeding the baby, you may want to use some additional nursing cover like a sling, shawl or piece of cloth to cover the baby while she is at your breast. Using a breastfeeding poncho alongside the breastfeeding top can be of great help too.

Pros of Breastfeeding
Formulation – Nature provides all the essential nutrients, minerals, antibodies and growth hormones in breast milk to meet the baby’s growing requirements. No formula milk can provide these infection fighting and immunity building hormones.

Free of cost – The best thing about breast milk is that it is free of cost, or at least less expensive. Some mothers may need to take additional nutritional supplements during and after pregnancy.

Convenient – Breast milk is readily available all the time to meet the babys needs. You never “run out” of breast milk, as you may with formula milk or bottles. As long as you keep feeding your baby, or pumping regularly, using a breast pump like Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump, you will keep producing milk. Secondly, breast milk is much more convenient as you do not have to wash any bottles, nipples, or containers.

Mother and child bonding – Breastfeeding allows an emotional bonding to develop between the mother and the child, which can never be possible with formula milk.

Benefits for the mother – Breast milk is not only useful for the baby, but it provides several health benefits to the mother as well, such as reducing the risk of certain cancers, helping in weight loss as well as going back to the pre-pregnancy state quickly after giving birth.

Cons of Breastfeeding
Although breastfeeding is completely natural and safe for the baby, it has a few disadvantages which can lead breast feeding mothers to shift to formula milk. Each of these disadvantages has solutions, and we highly recommend mothers to find a solution to these problems instead of giving up breastfeeding all together.

Breastfeeding is challenging – Mothers often plan to breastfeed their baby for a year, but most of them give up in 4 to 6 months, or even earlier. This is because breastfeeding can be challenging, especially for new moms. It needs time, patience and experience to get comfortable with, as you and your baby are in the process of learning something new. Some mothers may feel awkward or want to give up breastfeeding their child if they do not see any one around them encouraging them or breastfeeding their child.

Problems associated with breastfeeding – Problems like sore nipples, gorged or leaking breasts are associated with breastfeeding which can be painful or embarrassing for the breastfeeding mother.

Inconvenience of feeding – Some working mothers may not be able to breastfeed their child if they are away from home for very long hours. Although milk can be pumped and stored in bottles to feed to the child, carrying breast milk around for long is not always possible. Similarly, some women may feel too exhausted or drained after a long days work to come home and breastfeed the child. For some mothers, breastfeeding in public can be inconvenient.

These disadvantages can put off a breastfeeding mother, causing her to shift to formula milk. However, you should be fully aware of the pros and cons associated with formula milk to be able to make the right decision for your child.

Pros of Formula Milk
Convenience in feeding – As opposed to breast milk, formula milk can be given to the baby by either parent, or by anyone else. This can be useful a lot of times, especially when feeding the child in public.

Feeding frequency – Formula milk contains synthetic nutrients which are not readily digested by the baby’s digestive tract. This is why formula is slowly digested by the baby, reducing feeding frequency during the day.

Cons of Formula Milk
Too expensive – This is by far the biggest disadvantage of formula milk and should be considered before you decide to go for it.

Time consuming – With formula milk you have to make sure that bottles, containers and nipples are thoroughly washed. This can take a lot of time and can be the cause of delay in feeding the baby on time too, leaving her crying and hungry.

Synthetic composition – Formula milk contains synthetic nutrients and lacks antibodies, growth hormones and immunity building factors. Therefore, infants on formula milk often suffer from illnesses and infections as their body is not able to build up resistance and immunity.

The synthetic composition of formula milk also causes digestive problems for the infant, and can lead to diarrhoea or constipation along with gas.

Choosing between breastfeeding and formula milk is a personal decision made by moms according to their lifestyles. Every mother should make a solid effort to breastfeed her child, before choosing to go for formula milk.

child-id-bracelet-purple200jpgSo it’s summer and your child is out of school.  You don’t want their brain to go to mush do you?  You want them to keep those brain muscle’s stretching and their little minds a ticking right along.

Help your kids keep their brains active all summer with the following activities.

Reading.  Libraries are perfect places for family outings in the heat of summer and while you’re there you can check out tons of books that will help keep your children reading all summer long.

Museums.  Visiting a museum is a great way to help stretch those brain muscles in the children.  Any educational outing for that matter will surely do the trick.

Projects.  Whether you choose to turn your kitchen into a science lab or the garage into a carpenter’s shop find fun projects to do with your kids that will help keep their brain alive.

Shop and learn.  While I know that taking kids shopping may be the last thing you want to do, it can be a great learning experience for them.  If they are old enough have them add up the cost of your groceries as you go along or help them to calculate how many of each item you need for the week.  For younger kids have them play a game such as finding a certain number of items or items of a certain shape.

All of these activities can be fun and educational, most likely you will be able to keep your child’s brain muscles strectching without much thought at all.  (no pun intended)

Remember to keep your kids SAFE this summer while doing these activities. Be sure your child wears a physical ID everyday like our Personalized Kid Dogs Tags or Child ID Bracelet.

Teaching Your Child About Strangers

The danger of strangers and our children is higher than ever before. Now not only can strangers approach our children in person, in local places such as a store or park, but they can also approach them via telephone, cell phone, text message or email, not to mention other “online” ways of communicating.

Stranger-Safety-DVD150The danger of strangers and our children is higher than ever before.  Now not only can strangers approach our children in person, in local places such as a store or park, but they can also approach them via telephone, cell phone, text message or email, not to mention other “online” ways of communicating.

We must be even more prepared and educated these days than ever before about the dangers of strangers and about how to educate our children properly on “stranger danger”.  Teaching your child about strangers is your responsibility and should be a top priority.

First, it is important that you help your child to understand what a stranger is exactly.  By showing them pictures of familiar faces and people you are able to point out that if the person isn’t someone that is in the pictures and that they know well then that person is a stranger.

Next, you will want to talk about what you would and would not do with a stranger.  Set some boundaries and ground rules to help them understand what is considered  “crossing the line” when communicating with a stranger.

You might set rules such as:

Never open the door for a stranger to let them in your home.
Never take food or candy from a stranger.
Never get into a vehicle or go into a home or building alone with a stranger.
There may be more that you want to set but these are a good starting point.

Depending on the age of your child you may also want to talk to them about talking to strangers on the phone or Internet as well.  What is most important is that your child understands “who” a stranger is, what should not be done with a stranger and how they should react. Our Stranger Safety DVD tells that  stranger may be someone they kindof  know or somone they do not know.

Protecting Your Child On Vacation

Are you planning a family vacation? Vacations are fun times for families, but if you have children they must also be safe times. You must do all that you can as a parent to protect your children.

Are you planning a family vacation? Vacations are fun times for families, but if you have children they must also be safe times. You must do all that you can as a parent to protect your children.

Begin by setting and discussing rules for your vacation with your children. Depending upon their age these may range from staying with you at all times to using a buddy system while out exploring. As a family you may also choose to dress in the same colors each day in order to help keep up with and easily identify everyone or you may communicate via walkie-talkies.

It will all depend on your child’s age as to how strict your safety rules may be, but no matter what you choose to restrict communication before your vacation as well as during it is key to truly protecting them.

Once you are on vacation setting meeting places and times is important as well as making sure everyone knows the location of where you are staying. Warn your children to be aware of their surroundings and to heed warning signs such as the prevalence of wild animals in the area or to watch for other warnings.

It is truly important to talk to your children about their safety and how they can protect themselves no matter what their age. Planning ahead and setting rules will make certain that your family vacation is a safe and happy one.

Sippy Cup Germs!

Sippy cups, while super convenient, can also be full of germs. This is especially true if your child gets the wrong cup. While it is not fun to think about, it does happen in daycares and even in Church nurseries.

name-label-nuby-sippy-cup100Sippy cups, while super convenient, can also be full of germs.  This is especially true if your child gets the wrong cup.  While it is not fun to think about, it does happen in daycares and even in Church nurseries.

Most nurseries recommend that you write your child’s name on all of their belongings, especially bottles and cups.  The problem with that is you end up with cups and bottles that have your child’s name written in black magic marker.  While this is a popular way to keep cups in the hand of the proper owner, it is not very attractive, or practical.  If you have more than one child around the same age you could make the mistake of sending your child to school with a cup bearing their siblings name.

Another problem with this method is that it permanently marks the cup, and even if you can scrub some of the marker off, most of the time the entire name will not come off.

There is a better option out there to take care of the ever present labeling issue, name labels.  These are super durable bands that fit around the cup or bottle.  Most of them are made of silicone, and come personalized with your child’s name on them.  They are available in a variety of sizes, so finding one to fit your brand of bottle or sippy cup is not a problem.  The thing I love most about the name labels is that you can simply slide them off to clean the item.  If you have more than one child simply order labels with each child’s name.

With all of the germs that constantly circulate in a nursery environment, making sure your child gets the right cup or bottle can help them avoid a little sickness.
