Business Review by Alyssa Avant

As a parent, the safety of my children is of utmost importance. This world gets scarier and scarier each day therefore I must do all that I can to protect my most precious and valued possession (so to speak) my children. But, how can I do this and do it well?

Kay Green, owner of My Precious Kid, understands this and understands it well. She has filled a whole store, both online and a brick and mortar business in Hillsboro,Oregon, with items that are for this purpose, protecting our children.

The store houses items to protect not only our children, but ourselves and those elderly ones in our lives who can’t protect themselves. You can obtain items for protecting them from everything from strangers to dangerous items in your own home. The items are of high quality and affordable.

Her products not only protect you and your children from things that you think of commonly but from other things as well, including harmful ingredients in common household items such as sippy cups. ON her site you can purchase sippy cups that are much safer for your children.

So, if you’re looking to truly protect yourself, your children and others in your life, then My Precious Kid has something for you.

Child-Proofing Your Home is a Must

Going to a friend’s house who does not have children is a nightmare for me. I have three small children who like to get into everything. Well, at least the oldest two do, as they are more mobile. I cringe at thinking of them being in a home where absolutely nothing is child proofed. You know no protection for protecting my children from things that will or could harm them.

This includes everything from electrical outlets, to easy to open doors, to heavy furniture. It could even be true for staircases, bathtubs, and surge protectors.

To truly protect your child in your home you need to think of even the smallest ways that they could be harmed. My soon to be two-year-old recently learned how to unlock the back door. Now, we must be much more careful with her around doors especially those going into areas of our house that may be dangerous or to outside. This is where door knob covers can serve to protect your child from harm.

Large heavy furniture can also cause concern. Children often times try to climb these type pieces, which could result in the furniture turning over on them. Safety straps can be attached to these furniture pieces and the strap attached to the wall to ensure your child’s safety. TV straps are also very importnat as a falling TV can kill a child.

Stairs are another place in a home that can be dangerous for children. Baby gates are the easiest way to protect your child from climbing the stairs and possibly falling on them. Use baby gates at the foot of the stairs or at the entrance to the staircase to help protect your child.

Another important area that you need to be sure to make inaccessible to your child is anywhere that you store items which may contain poisons or be harmful to them if they were to ingest them. This may be under your kitchen sink, in a utility closet or in your bathroom cabinets. Be sure to use protective devices in this area as well which will keep your child out of harm’s way.

This is not an exhaustive list but I am sure that it covers quite a few of the possible things that can be harmful to your child in your home or another person’s home that you want to be sure and make sure that your child is protected from at all times. My Precious Kid also has a Home Safety Kit with 46 products.

Tips for Safety on an Outing for Your Child

CHILD SAFETY – It’s that time of year, the weather is beginning to warm up just a bit and you may be planning or thinking of planning a trip to an amusement park, zoo, or other outdoor activity for you and your children. Or your child may be accompanying their class from school on a field trip to such a location. These are fun times that we all enjoy, but there can be some danger involved in these outings as well.

This is why you want to be sure to do everything that you can to ensure that your child is safe. The following are a few ways to keep your child safe on such an outing, whether they are going to the zoo, an amusement park or a museum.

These tips include:

1. Talk about a meeting point. It is best that your child stay with you or their chaperone the entire time that they are at the location, but it goes without saying that accidents happen and kids get lost. If this becomes a reality it is best to have established a meeting point where you can go and they can come to in order to find you. This might be the food court, a front gate, or a central location such as a water fountain that is found in the park or zoo.

2. Talk about stranger danger. Sometimes children are drawn to a stranger because they seem nice or maybe they are giving things away or trying to sell you something, but no matter what you will want to warn you child about the dangers of talking to or going off with strangers especially. I teach my kids to look for another mom with kids if they get separated from us.

3. Ask a lot of questions. Ask your children questions about what you have discussed about your trip. Or if they are going with a group such as a school or daycare be sure to ask those in charge a lot of questions about how your child will be cared for, what the rules will be and other similar things so that you can feel certain that your child will be safe.

4. Every child wears an ID for every outing. The ID should have parent cell phone numbers plus a number for another family member. The ID can be used to return your child to you quickly if separated. Use ID Bracelets, Kids Dog Tags or Shoe ID Tags to protect them.

The fact with kids remains that you can never be too careful. It is up to you to do everything that you can to protect your child.

Protecting Your Child From Germs

The flu season is upon us. What can you do to protect your child from germs? There are quite a few things that you can do to help keep the germs away from your child as much as possible.

Many of the things that you can do to protect your child from germs are common sense, but likewise many of us fail to do them. Therefore, if you just put a little thought into your everyday actions and activities then you’ll be better prepared to protect your child from the germs that linger in the air, on surfaces on and around your home and the places that you frequent.

The following are some common sense things that you can do to protect your child from germs:

Frequent hand washing. We all know that the best way to ward off the common cold or the flu virus is to frequently wash your hands, therefore you want to do the same for your little one. Yes, the antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizers are nice and convenient too, but what works best is good old antibacterial soap and water so that you can thoroughly wash and rinse away the germs. Teach your child how to properly wash their hands so that they too can do so even when they may be away from you.

Wash bed clothing often. Especially when someone in your family is ill it is important to wash the bed clothing that they sleep on as this is a place where germs can linger. Washing these items in hot water and with bleach if possible is a must to wash away the germs that are found on them.

Using protective covering. One example is a shopping cart cover for when you and your child go shopping this protects your child from the germs that are on the cart. Another is using a meal time mat for your child when eating. These mats keep your child’s food off of the table and protected.

It goes without saying that you cannot be too careful when it comes to your child and germs. Taking the proper steps you know to take is all that you can do, but they are definitely something that you should take the time to do and do properly.
