CPSIA: We have made a difference

WE MADE A DIFFERENCE!!!!

BIG NEWS: Official Word – 1 yr stay from testing and certification
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml09/09115.html
Our items must still be under the lead level however.

RETAILERS EXEMPT: CPSC Todd A. Stevenson, Dire Office of the Secretary has asked that retailers be exempt from the final enforcement. That only the manufacturers could get fined http://www.cpsc.gov/library/foia/foia09/pubcom/civilpenalty.pdf

REFORM: Sen DeMint has asked for reform http://demint.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=JimsJournal.Detail&Blog_ID=295d58b2-b6fe-c446-1432-24b6199424ed
1. Component test 2. Exempt resale, goodwill, yard sales 3. No retroactive 4. CPSC to provide guide

All of these still need a vote but it is HUGE. We have to keep fighting. Even if we get the 1 yr stay we need to fight for component testing, xrt testing, and exceptions for materials that are lead free.

It feels so good to know we have made a difference by making our c=voices heard! Thank you all for helping us fight this battle.

CPSIA – Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act

Do you like to buy handcrafted children’s items? Many will disappear Feb 10, 2008.

New CPSIA (Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act) rules will require expensive redundant lead testing on all children product: books, clothes, toys, stationary, room decor, safety products etc. And this rule is retroactive to include products already made last year.

Small businesses and crafters will not be able to pay $100-4000 per item to be tested in order to keep selling. http://www.cpsc.gov/ABOUT/Cpsia/cpsia.HTML

This rule will affect products in schools, day care centers, libraries, Goodwill, resale stores, craftshows, garage sales, ebay and craigslist. It will be illegal to sell or distribute or store children’s product that contain over 600 ppm lead and those not tested.

They are calling Feb 10th national Bankruptcy day because of the number of small business that will be forced to close down. http://nationalbankruptcyday.com/

Please HELP us by calling some of the number listed below. Please ask them to repeal CPSIA before Feb 10, 2008

Why contact Waxman http://tinyurl.com/d2d7z3 His office will tell you to call CPSC.

CPSC will tell you to call him. He is the only one who can call a hearing now.

Please CALL, Write, and BLOG about this

*************************************************************

1. Call Rep. Waxman, ask them to postpone CPSIA deadlines! 202-225-4434. Tell them you know only he has the authority to call a hearing to make exceptions.

2. Call Nancy Nord of CPSC (301) 504-7901 – Ask for help and guidelines for your business under CPSIA. Ask why we retailers and businesses were notified last August since we are all registered with the state.

3. Call Chairman of Commerce Com. Senator John D. Rockefeller IV : (202) 224-6472 They are fighting for us. Ask for help for your business.

**********************************************

Additional contact you can make. Tell them how CPSIA will affect you, your business, your children, your school, day care center, church.

1. Write the White house about CPSIA http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/opl/

2. Call Senate Commerce Committee 202-324-5115

5. Contact your Rep https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml

6. Contact the minority house commerce committee. 1-202-224-1251

7. Contact House Commerce & Energy Comm (PH) 202-225-2927

8. Contact Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s number in DC-(202) 225-4965.

9. Call your local paper and ask them to write and article on CPSIA and small business.

If we all make a few calls we can make a difference. Waxman’s office said this was not intended to cover small American businesses but it does. They said it was an unintended fall out of keeping kids safe from Chinese imports that came to the US with lead. However our American small business are the ones being hurt.

PLEASE HELP and do your part!

In the mean time if you are a business do not stop running your business. Both Waxman’s office and Rockefeller’s office told me over the phone that no fines will be coming any time soon for anyone. And when they do start enforcing this it will be the big companies first. They both expect changes and exemptions to come long before fines start being issued to anyone.

They both told me that if you are making and selling safe LEAD FREE items continue doing so. Get paperwork showing you looked at your components. Or get XRT test on first run. Or in some way show that you looked to make sure your products were safe. Then keep making and selling your safe products.

The CPSC past history shows they have rules to enforce and they do not have the man power or budget to enforce the ones they have now. They are looking only for the big blatant rule breakers that are hurting someone.

I have to beleive we have HOPE for change in CPSIA in the future. And I am doing my part to help fight for that change. How about you?

PS We just got XRT test results back. Our ID kits are CPSIA compliant!

You’re The Parent of a Special Needs Child….Now What?

You’re expecting a child and you find out that they may, or may not be a special needs child, or maybe you’re child is a few months old and you begin to notice things about them that are unexplainable or that you may question. After having tests run and other medical examinations, you discover your child has special needs. You may wonder, “Now what?”

Having a child with special needs will definitely change your life. It takes a special person to deal with a special needs child, and you will be all the better for being a parent of one of these unique children, but you will also realize that you have a lot to learn as well.

Parenting a child with special needs does call for having to learn new things, deal with new things, and tackle new obstacles that you may have never had to as a parent in the past. Be ready for these new challenges so that you can truly see the “specialness” of your child even through all the difficulty.

The following are a few things you should be ready to do as a parent of a special needs child.

1. Become an advocate. There are so many things that you will want for your child, and many of these things you will have to fight for. Proper education, special rights, understanding, all things you will want for your child and therefore you may have to head up the fight in order to receive these things.

2. Dedicate your time. It will take more quality, one on one time from you in order to ensure that your child get the care and support that they need as a child with special needs. This may mean that your lifestyle changes, and /or that you change jobs, homes, or maybe even where you are living in order to be able to provide the things that your child needs. Be ready to do so.

3. Protect your child. Often times special needs children will need to be protected more so than a child without those needs. Many times this extra measure of safety may need to be from things that the child themselves can do to harm themselves. Safety for the special needs child is of utmost importance. As a parent there are things that you can do to ensure safety for your special needs child.

My Precious Kids is available to help you keep your child with special needs safe. Call Kay Green at 503-693-2832 to talk about how to protect your child. She has many products that will give you peace of mind.

The #1 Most Influential Woman of 2009

The #1 Most Influential Woman of 2009 is none other than your very own Kay Green.

I first ‘met’ Kay through one of the many yahoo groups we’ve all become so familiar with. I had seen her name a time or two. Enough to know she’d successfully started and built her own home-based business. I began paying closer attention one day when she made mention that she’d soon have to find a building because her business had grown so much.
I remember thinking, “wow, she’s someone I need to get to know”. It wasn’t until I began the journey of starting my own business that I searched for her email to ask for a few pointers. Within minutes, we were chatting on the phone and I felt like I’d known her for years. She is truly an amazing person.

The Most Influential Women to follow in 2009 contest came to mind one day when I began thinking of the kind of women I’d like my daughter to look up to. I wanted every day women that have succeeded in many areas in life and were willing to give of themselves to assist others in living their best life. Kay is that person. I was not surprised at all to see her nominated several times.

There were over 100 comments made on behalf of the 20 nominated women. Let me share a portion of one with you.
“I wanted to chime in and add to the chorus of “We love Kay Green.” I met Kay through an intimate business women’s group, and she has been a joy to all of us.
She’s quick to help someone find an answer, brainstorm a solution, or just lend a supportive shoulder.
I admire her as a businesswoman, as a mother, as a Christian, and as a human being.
I will look forward to finding out more about some of these other neat women who’ve been nominated, but I’m sure we could all gain a lot from “following” Kay.” ~~ Tiffany

Kay received the majority of the comments placed, which is primarily what captured the first place position for her. I am honored to call her my new friend and a woman I look up to. We will all certainly be the better for following her this year. I invite you to read her interview today on Kat Logic. and leave her yet another comment to congratulate her honor and success.

Do Not Talk to Strangers

DO YOU TEACH your children to not talk to strangers? And do your children know what a “stranger” is? In today’s society the threat of strangers is even greater than the past. This is because kids are more exposed to strangers through the many different types of technology that we enjoy, not to mention just everyday happenings through which they may encounter and / or have to interact with strangers.

STRANGER DANGER – There is a “stranger danger” in today’s world that is greater than ever before, which will require your talking to your child in order to make certain that they understand what they should do when they encounter a stranger, whether it be in person at the store, if a stranger comes to their door, or if a stranger tries to engage them in a conversation online while they are playing games, or even calls them on the telephone.

There are so many different scenarios that you hear these days with children being kidnapped, injured or even killed due to having come into contact with strangers and not doing what they should have to get away or to avoid the situation. Make sure you child wears a physical ID every day, like an ID bracelet or personalized dog tag.

PROTECT YOUR KID WITH INFORMATION – These are scary times, therefore you should be taking drastic measures to protect your child. Take a step in the right direction today. Purchase and watch our Stranger Dangers DVD with your child today. It will help you teach your children that a stranger can be someone you don’t know. Or it could be someone you kind of know. This video will give you the correct terms for helping you teach your children how to identify a person that could be dangerous.

Cure Boredom on Roadtrips

TRAVEL WITH CHILDREN If you're the parent of a small child and you've ever been with them in the car for any length of time then you've probably experienced the childhood boredom syndrome. They seem to get bored quite easily and with their boredom comes your misery.

TRAVEL WITH CHILDREN If you’re the parent of a small child and you’ve ever been with them in the car for any length of time then you’ve probably experienced the childhood boredom syndrome. They seem to get bored quite easily and with their boredom comes your misery.

Therefore, if possible you want to cure your child’s boredom before it begins, by being prepared. Prepare the following to help combat boredom:

PACK SOME SNACKS Snacks are a great way to cure boredom, plus their going to get hungry anyway and you don’t want to have to stop every few hours especially on a long road trip. So pack healthy, non-messy snacks such as pretzels, animal crackers, and juice boxes to help keep your child busy and full.

BRING ALONG MOVIES If you have one a portable DVD player is a must on a road trip. Along with a few good kid’s movies you are sure to have peace for a good number of hours with this packed in your car.

PAPER AND PENCIL What kid doesn’t like to draw, play tic tac toe or write down the states or places as you pass through. You can make a game of almost anything and having a pad and pen ready for them is a great way to invent more games as you go along.

RIGHT CAR SEAT The right seat will fit the correctly and comfortably. Babies should be rear facing until 12 months PLUS 20 pounds. They are even safer rear facing to 30 pounds. Kids should be in a 5 point harness until age 4 plus 40 pounds. They are even safer in 5 point harness in right car seat to 80 pounds in the RADIAN 80 car seat.

MAKE KIDS SAFE. Attach a child Carseat ID card to their Carseat or booster seat. It provides information to make them safer in a car accident. These are available in the Child Safety Pack by MyPreciousKid.com

As you can see the things that you pack for the trip to combat boredom don’t have to be that earth shattering, just be creative, think like a kid and use your imagination. Doing so ahead of time and being prepared will help you to have a little more sanity on your next roadtrip.
