Frequently Asked Questions
How will I know if they are fitted correctly?
Make sure the child's ear is enclosed inside the space in the ear cup and
that the cushions seal fully against the head around the full perimeter if
the child's ear. Adjust the headband so that it sits comfortably over the
top of the head. Sunglasses, reading glasses and thick hair can reduce the
performance and fit of ear muffs.
What does NRR and SNR stand for and what do they mean?
NRR stands for Noise Reduction Rating, and SNR stands for Single Noise
Ratio. Basically, these two ratings are used to give a measurement of the
average decibel attenuation ( lowering of the noise level ) over a range
of specified frequencies. They are calculated slightly different and
because of this the SNR rating will come out higher than the NNR rating.
Will my child be able to hear anything with the ear muffs on?
Yes, your child will still be able to hear, this is important to their
safety, however the dangerous levels of noice will be reduced. The less
noise the child is exposed to, the less noise the ear muffs will let
through. This also applies to ear plugs.
What options are there for a newborn baby?
Unfortunately there just isn't any hearing protection designed with a
newborn baby in mind. Although we recommend our ear muffs for babies from
6 months, they will also fit a lot of younger babies too. A lot of parents
have successfully used our ear muffs on babies as young as 6 weeks old. It
is ok for the headband to extend above the top of the head, just as long
as the ear cups seal around the full perimeter of the ear.
What do the letters printed on the earmuffs refer to?
The letters printed on the side of the earmuffs refer to various
international safety standards:
ANSI S3.19 - The American National Standards Institute is a private,
nonprofit organization that oversees the development of voluntary
consensus standards for products, services, processes, systems, and
personnel in the United States. Equivalent Australian companies include
SAI Global and Standards Australia. S3.19 is the standard introduced by
the ANSI to regulate hearing protection devices. Banz Ear Muffs meet these
requirements.
EN352-1: 1993 - This is the European Standard for hearing protection and
hearing protectors, as well as protective clothing and other safety
measures. Em's For Kids also meet this standard.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: As an audiologist I am THRILLED to see hearing
protection for kids! The education about noise-induced hearing loss and
the sound levels of many common activities provided on your site are
great! It's a challenge in our field to get adults to understand that they
need to protect their hearing and even more challenging to get parents on
board with protecting their children's hearing as well. Kudos to Baby Banz
for encouraging hearing protection and making it look cool in the process!
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: My son (now 8 months old) has worn these to watch his
daddy's band play for about three months. He's so comfortable in them that
he never tried to take them off and he even fell asleep at a concert
wearing them while in the Baby Bjorn. I put them on to test them out and
when a full band is playing in a small to medium sized venue (very loud!)
the earmuffs bring the volume down to the normal level for listening to
music in the car. These earmuffs are amazing and Baby Banz is a helpful
and trustworthy company based on how they answered all of my questions
since I was very concerned about protecting my baby's ears on tour. I
recommended them to many other parents and everyone who uses them agrees
that they are the best for baby/kid hearing protection.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: I purchased these headphones for my 4 month old
daughter to wear at NHL games. She had been to games before but some of
the noise bothered her, especially the loud goal horn. We put these on and
she is perfectly content. She even sleeps through goals! They fit snug but
well and normally she doesn't notice them. The only time she complains is
when they are too far forward and squish her cheeks. They're also a little
heavy for her when she's holding her head up. But they fit great and work
really well.
CUSTOMER COMMENTS: I have a 14 month old grandson that had his first
experience with Nascar in August at the BMS. We decided to take him to the
spring race this year and his mother found these earmuffs and we ordered
them. If anyone has ever been to the BMS track, you understand how loud it
is. To my amazement, during the race, he took a nap without being
disturbed by the loud roar. The earmuffs had a tight fit and they were
obviously comfortable due to him not attempting to pull them off. I would
highly recommend these earmuffs for any child that is going to be exposed
to loud conditions.
